Ahem!

"I am writing this series because I felt a need for people being aware about the various processes of video making. As an viewer it is important to know about video entertainment system so people can judge; appreciate what's good and do opposite for what's not. Wisely."

STAGES OF VIDEO PRODUCTION

Since, It is the first blog in the series, I need to explain several stuff to the people who are totally unaware of things.
There are several steps in production of a video, where each step have its own complications and challenges. Here is the series which I prefer to follow, when creating a video.
  • Coming up with idea.
  • Wring a rough script.
  • Reconsidering your resources and reviewing the script.
  • Writing the final screenplay.
  • Casting.
  • Organizing the shoot and shooting it.
  • Editing.
  • Posting.
  • Promotion.

INTRODUCTION

The basic idea was to mock the system of education by exaggerating scenarios of discrimination among the students. The video contains contradictory honest dialogues, exaggerated situations and various issue are pointed with clingy humor.

SCREENPLAY

This was a new thing for me as I had never written a screenplay before. Previously, It was all in my mind. I used to imagine and keep it into my mind, what I have to shoot, how I will do it and stuff. This is the way followed by many new video creators.
But it's not a good practice. Here's why :
  • You can forget minor details like transitions or camera angle; which will push you to compromise with your video.
  • It's very hard to transfer your imagination into someone else's mind.
  • It's hard to keep track of what you've shot, and what's left.
  • Improvisations can totally mislead or deflect the context of the video as you do not have a base to stick on.
So, it was time I ought to move on to a new level. Even-though it sucks to write and review but it makes sure the professionalism you admire.

LOCATION

This video required something out of my comfort zone. It required a classroom, which seems to be an easy thing to get but believe me it's not. Because every institute have its own policies; policies which don't allow them to allocate classroom for commercial purposes. I heard no from 4 places, and after two weeks of constant striving I got the place.
Special thanks to 'Parikshit Gupta' for arrangement of place.

ACCESSORIES

For most of the people a DSLR might not be a big thing to have or get. But, it doesn't means that it's something which is easily available anytime you want it.
In my case, it was quite a hustle to get one right on time. The part which was shot at a different location[In the room], camera died and due to conditions I was pushed in, there was only one DSLR available and the owner was out of the town, and We did not had the charger. [Rookie mistakes; I know but just mentioning so anyone do not repeat it].
But the later part was awesome, everything available.
Special thanks to 'Ansh Poojary', 'Albert Joseph', 'Dheeraj Kakade' for providing me the resources when I needed it.
Honorable mentions : Sachin Sanwal,  Raneet Sahoo.
Also, We lacked some key accessories like lightings, Mic and green screen, but I'm not considering them as our budget is not enough to afford everything.

SHOOTING

Now, honestly I had one of the smoothest and accurate shoots till date. It doesn't mean everything was easy and happened in no time, but it means that I was totally aware of everything I was doing. Improvisations were more awesome because after improvising a dialogue or a scene I exactly knew where to join back in my script.
I took 5 hours of shooting, which is BAD score. I don't blame it on others, it's totally on me.
The shoot featured
  1. Aditya Pandey
  2. Rushab Mahale
  3. Parikshit Gupta
  4. Mrunal Gaikwaad
  5. Aaryan Bhatt
  6. Ansh Poojary
HONORABLE MENTIONS : Ishan Patil, Ruchita Patel

EDITING

Editing was tough, because it was my first screenplay and honestly it wasn't much lucid or fluid. I had that numb feeling. Therefore, to make it better I had to do a lot of work with the audio and effects. Total editing time was around 24-26 hours, divided in 5 Days. Which is pretty bad, but it is acceptable because I was editing after a very long time.

CONCLUSION

Overall performance of mine seems satisfactory to me, but it's not where I ought to stop. I am far behind where I desired to be. And I won't stop until I get there. Writing my own mistakes, analyzing my work will make me a better creator. And this will be a journey for all of us. If you are a creator, learn from my mistakes; be a better one. <3
